What’s My Name? is the second single by R&B singer Rihanna, taken from her fifth studio album, “Loud“, released on November 12, 2010.
Rihanna and Drake get up close and personal in the Philip Andelman-directed video for “What’s My Name?, they’re such a cute couple right…?
The vid was helmed by director Philip Andelman and features Ri strutting down the NYC streets in a colorful outfit and getting cozy with Drake.
FYI: “What’s My Name?” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, marking Ri’s eighth number one hit and is currently in the top ten of the UK charts still a few weeks ahead of its official release. Now that’s pretty damn impressive!!!
WHAT DO YOU THINK of Rihanna’s new video?
Oh na na, What’s my name, oh na na…
After the hugely succesful Love The Way You Lie by Rihanna and Eminem, they’ve decided to go down the Empire State of Mind route with a broken down Part II. It’s pretty fantastic, its firmly on repeat on the iPod although im still unsure if it beats the original…? Initially a piano based broken down version of the track was recorded but then drums were added to give the song a new lease of life.
I don’t know what it is but with some songs i actually need the video to be released for me to take the song a bit seriously. This new video release is a pretty perfect example , I wasn’t crazy about Only Girl , Rihanna‘s first single to be lifted from the new “Loud” era but with the video being released i have suddenly found myself addicted to the track. I think it’s the type of song that sounds better and better each time you hear it and with a video to now accompany the track that just increases….!
The visuals for the track found their way onto the web earlier this week to the delight of Rihanna fans worldwide. In the 22-year-old singer’s new video, directed by longtime collaborator Anthony Mandler, Rihanna reveals the lengths she will go to get her guy to make her feel like the “Only Girl (In the World).” Rihanna has officially moved on from her edgy “Rated R” days and has taken on a more girly and upbeat look with her newly premiered music video “Only Girl”.
‘Only Girl (In The World)’ is the lead single from Rihanna’s forthcoming album ‘Loud!!
The wild array of colors and landscapes makes this video such a beautifully shot video. Rihanna shows off her beautiful to die for looks and continues to rock her “LOUD” and spirited red locks as we view her as the only girl in the world, through rose-colored glasses. If Rihanna was indeed the only girl in the world it would be such a beautiful world.
“It’s really, really beautifully shot in these crazy, crazy, crazy places,” the 22-year-old told Entertainment Weekly. “We shot landscapes that we found a couple of hours outside of LA It looks so unreal. It looks fake, like something out of a postcard with the beautiful hills: We had a lot of sunshine those couple of days, so it really worked with the whole essence of the video. But really, the video just shows this big landscape and the only person there is me.”
Ps. Rumour has it that Rihanna will perform on X Factor on Sunday 24th October…Can’t wait.
Check the oh so beautiful visuals out below..!
WOW...That album cover art is fierce. I absolutely love the choice of cover. The picture fits perfectly with the album title is about definitely.
Rihanna will release her fifth studio album, Loud, on November 16, 2010 in the United States on Def Jam Records. The album has previously been described by insiders as a return to the uptempo dance style of old. When you listen to “Only Girl” the insiders claims sound quite concrete.
Looking forward to this album a lot. Rihanna seems to be very excited about the release which can only mean good results.
RIRI IS Back!!! The single has arrived and boy is it good! It doesnt disappoint for sure! After all the tough times Rihanna has encountered in the past year you get the feeling she just wants to have some fun! With this new track its the perfect kind of track you can dance along and have a lot of fun to!
After a brief encounter with some deep dark downbeat and pretty emotional music during the Rated R era its a welcome return to some upbeat music! Some would say she’s come full circle by going back to the upbeat sounds which propelled her initally into the limelight and gave her huge success!
On the first listen of this track I was quite shocked that Stargate(producer of previous hits “Rudeboy” , “Take a Bow” etc) were the producers of the track because its not your average typical Stargate kind of production! It follows a similar theme many top artists are following these days with the euro pop style a strong focal point! Its a bit of a dancefloor smash thats for sure! I can just imagine this song blasting out in the clubs right now. Some would point to the fact that Rihanna is simply trying to copy the likes of Gaga by going for this style but Rihanna has played around with this style of music previously and most notably in the pre Gaga era. I think she’s just simply realised that this formula is working in the world of pop today like every other!
This will be certainly be a hit amonst all the top radio stations, without a doubt , i get the feeling they will be hastily arranging a new addition to all their playlists! Gotta deserve a spot on the A playlist surely? Its actually reminscent of the David Guetta produced “Commander” as it has the same sort of dance vibe to it!. “Only Girl” is a big ravey dance hall number complete with a big belter of a chorus from Ri Ri with her shouting out the the strong catchy lyric ” “Want you to make me feel like I’m the only girl in the world”! I think a lot of people will like it because quite simply its a song which is relatable and current!
You certainly cant argue with Rihanna’s ability to keep churning out these tracks! Very catchy, almost certainly destined to be another smash! “Only Girl” is the lead single from Rihanna’s upcoming studio album due out in November, which is rumored to be titled Loud. Loving it. Only Girl’ looks to return to Rihanna’s radio-dominating sound, and in a big way!
About the new album, Rihanna had this to say:
I didn’t want to go backward and remake ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’. I wanted the next step in the evolution of Rihanna.”
I’m gonna miss the ‘Rated R’ era too, but NOTHING compares to the album I just made.
‘Green Light’ is the London-based grime collective’s second track to reach the top of the UK charts, after their previous release ‘Good Times’ achieved the same feat back in April.

Check out some of the latest videos in the world of MUSIC today!
First of all is the brand new video from Bashy which is a reworking of the song “Let Me Be Your Fantasy” . Bashy’s version is called “Fantasy” and is a very refreshing rework of the track.
Bashy got director Andy Hylton on board and flew out to Mexico to shoot the video for his next single ‘Fantasy’ which is taken from his, as of yet, untitled album landing towards the beginning of ’11.
He also got Amira from Eastenders (actress Preeya Kalidas) to star in the video which is a welcome addition to the video!! Check out the video below! Inspiring workrate who’s aiming for mainstream success with this latest number! Fantasy is due for release in September!
The second video is a big big video which has been breaking all the records in the past week on You Tube! Its Eminem feat Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie! Dominic Monaghan and Megan Fox star in the video and they personify the fiery relationship Eminem and Rihanna share in this song in it’s video – displaying the never-ending cycle of love; starting with them both lying on the bed, then going through numerous fights and make-ups, before ending up in the same place they started at the beginning of the video: their bed. AMAZING FIERCE VIDEO!
I love the hits Katy Perry keeps putting out , it seems that at the moment whatever she puts out is sounding quite brilliant! The video is just pure excellence. I wont give too much away about it , Just know you have to check it out! Its a complete contrast to the glamorous and over the top production of California Girls.
The single is released August 29th in the UK and the album of the same name will be available August 26th in the US and August 30th worldwide.
“So Big” is taken from from Iyaz’s debut album “Replay” which is due in United States this September. It is the third single from the J.R. Rotem-produced effort,
In the video Iyaz meets his love. The Beluga Heights artist bumps into the lady in an eaterie and comes to her rescue when she is bothered by a rude guy. She has been dreaming of having Iyaz showering her with gifts and surprises and their meeting seems to be the beginning of her dream coming true.
Nice enough video from Iyaz!

What can you say about Kanye West’s teaser clip for the new song “Power”.
In the 90-second video, Kanye – who has recently set up his own twitter account – is depicted in an empire on the brink of collapse.
Directed by Canadian artist Marco Brambilla, the clip takes its inspiration from Michelangelo’s frescos in the Sistine Chapel.
Kanye, who is gearing up for the release of his fifth studio album, tentatively titled Dark Twisted Fantasy, tweeted of the clip: ‘It’s not a video… It’s a moving painting!!!’

Artist: Alexis Jordan Label: Star Roc/Roc Nation Single: “Happiness” >> Official Website
What They Say: “The moment Alexis walked into our studio we just got that special feeling,” says Tor of the hit-making production team, Stargate. “It was a Blink-moment, ‘This girl’s got it, let’s make a record’.” We didn’t know the depths of Alexis at the time, but as we were making the record it became clear to us that not only is she a world class singer, but she is a smart, confident, all-around entertainer with a big future.
What We Say: The desire for a hit artist from Roc Nation is high on Jay Z’s priority list. With two of the best producers, Stargate (Beyonce, Rihanna) behind the album and giving her age (18) this could be an easy winner. The trick with Alexis Jordan is the music and her debut single, “Happiness” doesn’t pack enough punch to keep the industry and consumers begging for an album. The saving grace is Alexis Jordan can sing ten times better than some of the latest teen scene-stresses on the market. Alexis Jordan and Star Roc/Roc Nation is definitely one to watch in the fall of 2010.
Take A Listen / See What you think?
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Alexis embodies the new spirit of America with her rich cultural background that includes her father’s Puerto Rican heritage and her mother’s African American, Native American and European ancestry. Singing since she began to speak and songwriting since she was in 3rd grade, at age 11, Alexis moved with her parents and three younger siblings to Santa Clarita, California to pursue a career in the arts. After performing the National Anthem for the United States Air Force Academy, the extremely talented, young singing phenomenon started to attract a ton of attention. Soon, she was asked to sing at the start of various professional baseball games, which quickly gave way to bigger and better opportunities.
At age 14, she entered the Simon Cowell produced T.V. competition, America’s Got Talent and made it all the way to the semi-finals thanks in part to a thrilling performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing.” “When I got off stage after singing ‘I Have Nothing’ Simon said, ‘You are an amazing singer,’” says Alexis. “At the time I was crying, like oh my gosh, Simon Cowell! It’s a little girl’s dream to be singing for him so I was just so overwhelmed.”
With sharpened performance skills and more confidence than ever, the family travelled to Atlanta, Georgia for its burgeoning music scene and hotbed of talented producers. Alexis began making YouTube videos in between professional appearances. Although it would be these same online clips that would eventually land her the recording deal she wanted, Alexis was never crazy about the idea of singing in front of a computer. “I was like, Mom, this is so not cool!” remembers Alexis. “Kids don’t sing in front of cameras, it’s weird. It didn’t feel natural at all! But after I did it for a little while I thought it was fun.”
In September of 2008, her Youtube page was racking up millions of views. At that time, the multi-platinum, award-winning production and writing team, Stargate, contacted Alexis. The hit makers responsible for 1 hits such as Rihanna’s “Take A Bow” and Ne-Yo’s “Miss Independent,” who entered into a partnership with Roc Nation forming Star Roc, made arrangements to fly the multi-talented singer out to New York for a meeting and recording session. “I thought if they didn’t love me then they wouldn’t fly me all the way out to New York,” says Alexis. “I knew I had a good chance. Once I got out there we recorded a few songs and JAY-Z came to the studio. I was so excited! And the next thing I knew I was signed to StarRoc/Roc Nation.”
Now that Alexis has had the chance to work with some of the industry’s most sought after hit makers, she is getting ready to release her debut album which is a universal collection of songs that not only displays her tremendous voice, but also conveys the constructive message she feels is missing in mainstream music today.
On the LP’s first single “Happiness,” Alexis belts out a beautiful song about self-joy and empowerment over Stargate’s up-tempo track that will have listeners immediately singing along. “Good Girl” showcases Alexis’ sassy side as she sings, “I can be a good girl, but I’ve been bad before,” in between the upbeat, bouncing track where she flexes her wide ranging and powerful vocal capability. Then on “How You Like Me Now,” Alexis struts her stuff and let’s us know that success is always within her reach and that she is better than ever.
“I want to be really positive, no cussing, none of that,” says Alexis. “I’m a young artist and I want to be a role model. A lot of songs are upbeat, and some are ballads. There’s a little bit of that country vibe in it, and a little bit of that reggae vibe. My album really has everything.”
With a debut as diverse as her own background, Alexis Jordan will not only impress each and every person who listens to her album, but she also hopes to inspire them as well.
“I’m bringing something fresh, something new and something positive to the world,” she says. “Something that is going to leave a mark on history and music. We are going to make this international. That’s my goal, it’s going to spread all around the world.”
Katy Perry has rocketed to the top of the UK singles chart with ‘California Gurls’. The track – which features an appearance from rapper Snoop Dogg – also leads the US, Australian and Irish singles chart this week.

Meanwhile, Eminem places two singles in this week’s top ten: ‘Not Afraid’ at five and ‘Love The Way You Lie’, featuring Rihanna, at seven.
Lady GaGa’s ‘Alejandro’ continues its climb up the chart, advancing from ten to eight.
Outside of the top ten, Scissor Sisters debut at eleven with ‘Fire With Fire’ to notch up their eighth top 20 hit, while Kelly Rowland climbs from 17 to 13 with ‘Commander’.

Producer and singer Labrinth today announced he has signed a recording deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco record label. In addition, the 21 year-old from Hackney also inked a label deal under the guise of Odd Child/ Syco, through which he and his manager, Marc Williams, will discover and nurture new talent.
Lab is the first artist of his kind to sign to Syco, which houses the likes of Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, Il Divo and Westlife. It is also the first time in 6 years Syco have signed an artist unrelated to their TV platforms. This marks an exciting time not only for the super-talented superstar-in-waiting, but also for the UK urban scene as a whole.
“This is a crucial moment in my career, I’ve always been an ambitious and driven person and Simon has given me a bigger playing field,” said Labrinth of the signing. “I’m gonna show Uncle Sy a whole new world!”
It’s already been an incredible year for Lab, who celebrated a No.1 single with Tinie Tempah’s Pass Out back in March, while this week the pair hit No.2 with Frisky. Both tracks, produced by Lab, also feature his vocals.
Labrinth’s first single will be the defiantly original, feel-good, Let The Sunshine, due to be released Summer 2010. An album will follow, and meanwhile Labrinth will also be concentrating on finding and nurturing new talent for his Odd Child/ Syco imprint.
A big congrats to Lab and his management team for such an incredible deal. We look forward to hearing the results of the signing over the summer. At the moment the talented producer is working on tracks for JLS and Pixie Lott and has future projects in the works with Jay-Z, Rihanna and Cheryl Cole. Also watch for one of his tracks on Professor Green’s forthcoming album, Alive Till I’m Dead.
Here’s Lab and Tinie performing Frisky on BBC 1’s Live Lounge earlier this week.
